How long does a resin driveway take to dry before you can park on it?

How long resin bound surfacing takes to dry and set, when you can walk and park on it, and how many days the whole job takes.

In short

MyJobQuote's 2026 resin driveway guide says a resin driveway can be walked on after about four to six hours and driven on after roughly 24 hours, though cold or damp weather stretches that. The whole job takes two to five days, depending on size and how much groundwork is needed. The resin itself goes down in a day.

This is a job for our Resin Driveways service.

Where the days go

The resin is the quick bit. Almost all of the time on a resin driveway is spent getting the base right, because resin bound stone is a thin surface that shows every fault in what is underneath.

StageTypical time on our jobs
Dig out and removal of the old surfaceHalf a day to a day, longer on a large drive
Sub base, edging and drainageA day, plus curing time for any concrete edging
Tarmac or concrete base for the resinA day, then left to cure before the resin
Resin bound surfaceUsually one day

That is why MyJobQuote's range runs from two days for a small drive on a sound base to five for a large one that needs digging out. If you already have a sound tarmac or concrete drive, resin can go straight over it and the job is at the short end.

Drying and setting: when you can walk and park on it

  • Walking: MyJobQuote gives four to six hours. We ask you to keep off it until the next morning to be safe.
  • Parking: around 24 hours in warm dry weather. We tell you on the day, because it varies.
  • Turning the wheel on the spot: avoid it for the first few days, and ideally always. Dry steering scrubs any surface.
  • Heavy vehicles, skips and deliveries: keep them off for the first week.

Weather

Resin needs a dry surface and mild air to cure properly. We will not lay it in rain or when frost is due overnight, and we will move the date rather than risk a soft or cloudy finish. Spring to early autumn is the reliable window in Sussex and Surrey; winter jobs happen but we watch the forecast day by day.

Disruption while we are there

You will not be able to use the drive from the start of the dig out until the resin has cured, so plan for on-street or a neighbour's parking for the length of the job. Access to the front door is kept open. The noisy days are the dig out and the base; the resin day is quiet. The site is left clean, and the surface needs no sealing or aftercare beyond a sweep.

How long it lasts

MyJobQuote puts the life of a correctly installed resin bound drive at 21 to 25 years. Nearly all early failures we see are base failures under the resin rather than the resin itself, which is why we spend most of the job on the part you will never see.
