Surfacing
Commercial & Industrial Surfacing
Yards, car parks, loading areas and industrial hardstanding built for real weight.
Commercial surfacing is a different job from domestic work, and the difference is almost entirely underneath. A car park takes cars. A loading yard takes fully laden artics turning on the spot, and turning is what tears a surface apart. We build to the traffic rather than to a standard depth.
What our commercial surfacing service includes
Car parks
New construction and resurfacing, including the falls, the drainage and the bay markings. Getting the falls right matters more than most people expect, because a car park that ponds is a car park that fails early and gets complained about all winter.
Yards and loading areas
Heavy-duty build-ups for sites where loaded vehicles turn, brake and stand. Where vehicles consistently stand in one place, we specify for that rather than pretending it is the same as the rest of the yard.
Industrial hardstanding
Storage areas, plant standings and access routes around working buildings, built to carry what is actually going to sit on them.
Phased works on a live site
Most commercial jobs cannot stop trading while we are there. We phase the work in sections so deliveries keep coming and staff keep parking, and we agree that programme with you before anything comes off the lorry.
How we work
- Site survey. Traffic, turning circles, standing loads, drainage and where the pinch points are.
- Specification and written quote. Build-up set out by layer and by area, since different parts of a site often warrant different depths.
- Programme agreed. Phasing, access, working hours and how deliveries keep running.
- Construction, then lining and marking where it is wanted.
Standing water is what kills a commercial surface
The single most common fault we see on a failing yard or car park is water with nowhere to go. Falls that are too shallow, gullies set too high, or a drainage system that was adequate before the site was extended. We survey the drainage as part of the job, because laying a new surface over a water problem is a guaranteed return visit at your expense.

What people say
In their words, not ours
Farm track had been breaking up for years and we had patched it twice. They dug it out properly, sorted the drainage first and it has been through a winter now without moving.
Yard resurfaced around a working farm. They phased it so we could still get the milk lorry in and out every day, which nobody else quoting for it had even mentioned.
Came out, walked the drive with us and told us it did not need replacing, just dressing. Saved us a lot of money and they still turned up to do the smaller job properly.

Questions we get asked about commercial & industrial surfacing
Can you work outside our opening hours?
Where the site needs it, yes. Early starts, weekends and phased sections are all normal on commercial work. It is worth raising at the quoting stage because it affects the programme and the price.
Do you handle the bay markings as well?
Yes, and it is worth doing at the same time. Marking a fresh surface as part of the same job is cheaper and tidier than bringing someone back separately once you have reopened.
Our yard is rutting where the lorries turn. Can that area be done on its own?
Often, yes. Where the failure is confined to a turning or standing area we can reconstruct that section to a heavier specification and leave the rest, which is a great deal cheaper than doing the whole yard.
