Groundworks

Recycled material surfacing across Sussex, Surrey and Hampshire

Recycled materials laid for suitable access routes and hardstanding, selected for their role in the finished construction.

  • 5.0 from 10 reviews

We lay suitable recycled materials for access and surfacing work. Reusing processed material can be a practical choice where its properties meet the job specification. The decision starts with what the layer must do, not simply whether the material is described as recycled.

Choose the material for its purpose

Supporting layers

A recycled aggregate may be considered for a supporting layer where its grading and performance meet the required construction. Material intended below a finished surface should not automatically be treated as a durable exposed finish. We discuss its position in the build-up as well as the depth and compaction.

Access tracks and working areas

For an exposed track or hardstanding, we consider the vehicles, turning movements, drainage and maintenance expectations. A material that suits one lightly used approach may not suit another site with frequent loaded traffic. Existing soft areas need investigating rather than concealing beneath a new delivery.

Source, specification and suitability

Recycled aggregate, crushed material and reclaimed asphalt are not interchangeable descriptions. The proposed material needs a known source and appropriate classification for its intended use. Mixed demolition waste should not be assumed suitable simply because it contains stone or concrete.

We assess the proposed installation with those distinctions in mind. Where material is already on site, its condition and supporting information need reviewing before it can be included in the scope. We do not advertise waste disposal, waste acceptance or material processing as part of this service.

Preparing and laying the construction

  1. Establish the purpose of the surface and the expected vehicle loading.
  2. Inspect the current ground, levels and drainage.
  3. Agree the material specification and supporting construction.
  4. Prepare, place and compact the specified layers.
  5. Discuss the intended finish and any maintenance requirements.

Compare the whole job

Transport, excavation, preparation and future upkeep affect the value of the installation. Recycled content alone does not establish a lower overall price or a quantified environmental saving. We compare a suitable recycled option with other constructions against the needs of the actual site.

Questions we get asked about recycled material surfacing

Do you supply recycled materials without laying them?

This service is for installation. Describe the track, yard or supporting layer you need constructed so we can discuss a defined laying job.

Can you use material already on my site?

It needs checking for suitability, condition and provenance first. Existing material is not automatically suitable for reuse in a new construction.

Are recycled materials always cheaper or greener?

Not automatically. The source, transport, preparation and required performance affect the overall comparison. We do not attach an unsupported percentage saving to recycled content.
