Wimborne sits on the gravel and sand terraces of the Stour valley, where the ground drains well but offers little natural strength. A surface here needs its load spread by a properly built base rather than relying on the ground beneath it.
The work is a mixture: arable and mixed farming north of the town, a large amount of equestrian activity through the surrounding lanes, and rural business and visitor sites closer to the Poole conurbation where the traffic is public and the parking has to cope with it. Each of those wants a different build-up, and quoting them all the same is how a visitor car park ends up rutted after one season.
